All three games that I mention are great non-competitive games, which will foster a sense of inclusivity for even the most shy of toddlers. Pop a few items of treasure soft toys, wooden blocks or small prizes like gold chocolate coins into a box and put it in the centre under the parachute.
Everyone — parents and kids — hold the edge of the parachute and make waves like the sea. Everyone one takes hold of the edge of the parachute and lifts it up high. Call each child by their name and have them run, crawl or shuffle on their bottom under the parachute from one side to the other before the parachute comes down and tags them. Ask all the toddlers to take hold of the edge of the parachute with one hand, facing the same way as each other. Ask all the toddlers to sit on the floor at one end of the room and set a finish line at the other end of the room.
Make sure to cheer for every child crossing the line and then give out celebratory little gifts to everyone. Play some music, then when you stop the music, shout out an animal. Everyone has to pretend to be that animal. You can give a small prize for the best animal, as long as everyone gets a prize by the end of the game!! So, a great alternative for toddlers is to use a balloon or ball to pass round.
This is a challenge game. Ask each child to try walking the plank without falling off. Everyone else can stand around the plank clapping in encouragement or pulling faces and making distractions, depending on the vibe of the party guests.
Every successful participant gets a small prize. This is a complete giggle-inducer and an absolute classic kids party game! Get the toddlers to line up at the other end of the room to the wolf. Mr Wolf calls out a time… e. The toddlers move forwards the number of steps that relate to the time. Then the game starts over. Sit all the toddlers in a circle on the floor. There are two ways of running this game. Firstly, you can use an actual baking potato raw not cooked!! Or, you can buy an actual Hot Potato game that has a potato with a face.
Squeeze the potato to start the music and when the music stops, the person holding the potato wins a small prize and leaves the game. This is a great game to use to calm over-excited or tired children down before they have their party food or sing happy birthday and watch the birthday cake being cut. Ask all the toddlers to lie on the floor as still as they can possibly be.
You can either give a small prize to every child who stays super still or a child is out if they move, at which point they can have a small prize for trying hard!!! All this said, three, four and five year olds are capable of increasing amounts of cooperative play, so they are capable of enjoying a wider range of games than toddlers. All these games work equally well for indoor parties at home, parties at a venue or summer outdoor parties.
Get all the kids to sit in a circle. If not, then the original child goes again. Check out this video to see a game of Duck Duck Goose in action. The kids dance to fun music. When the music stops everyone has to sit down as quickly as possible.
The last child to sit down each time is given a small prize stickers or a single sweet work well and then the game continues, until there is either one winner left, or a handful of winners, depending on how many kids are playing remember, attention spans are short!! The winner or winners each receive a small gift and a round of applause. Any kids that get it wrong get given a sticker or small prize and are asked to watch from the sidelines. Continue until you have either a single winner or a handful of winners.
Kids aged three to five are just about at an age where the classic party game of Pass The Parcel works. The key to a successful game with preschoolers is to adapt the game to the number of children playing and to have a small prize within each layer. This is a great game for getting a couple of parents involved in the activities.
Play some fun music and shout encouragement. Pop some little sweets into balloons before blowing them up and tying them. Free the balloons and challenge the kids to pop them all to find the hidden treasure inside. I did a version of this game for a pirate themed party using black balloons and filling them with gold chocolate coins as treasure. Watch this video for a run-through of how to play Mother May I? Set up a line of chairs back to back with enough chairs for every child.
Play some music as the children dance and move around the chairs. When the music stops each child must sit down on a chair. From the second round either one or two chairs, so that either one or two children are out each time. Give the kids who are out a small prize. The last child left is the overall winner. Children take turns throwing the dice, and when they get a 6, they have to put on the dress up clothes, and start eating the chocolate one piece at a time using the knife and fork.
The child keeps eating until somebody else throws a 6, at which time they must put down the knife and fork, and pass over the clothes as quickly as possible. Usually everybody gets a turn to munch down some chocolate, although some children do manage do get more than others. If you want to make this game harder, put the chocolate in the freezer overnight. If you want to make the game a little easier, keep the chocolate out of the fridge for an hour or so before the party starts.
Write out the names of famous people, animals, or things on to slips of paper, so there is one for every child. If your party has a particular theme, you may want to use things related to that theme, but any things that are popular with children will work fine.
Tape a slip to the back of each child, without letting them know what it says. You can play this game at a specific time, or make it something that runs for the whole course of the party. There are basic rules for this game, but you could adapt them in several ways depending on how long you want the game to last. To start with, give every child a balloon to blow up, and ask them to hold the neck shut rather than tie it in a knot.
Place a target in the middle of the floor, and on the count of three, everyone releases their balloon. You could play this game over and over, and each time the target becomes a different prize, or you could allocate points for bulls eyes, 1st closest, 2nd closest, and so on. This is a really fun game, especially with a few squeamish kids at the party! On each plate, place a piece of food that has to be eaten when the bottle stops at that plate.
Make sure the food is a mixture of nice and nasty to increase the excitement when the bottle starts to slow. Now sit each player down in a circle around the plates. Each player takes a turn to spin the bottle and they have to eat whatever is on the plate the bottle stops at.
Have back-up supplies of each food item, ready to replace the food removed from the plates. Reduce the number of plates, each time someone gets out. Eventually you should have just 2 players, and 2 plates of food, 1 nice and 1 nasty. You can even go all out here and get personalised visa and debit cards.
But a simple giftcard is a really useful idea. You might also like our Traditional Birthday Party Games article. And for loads more expert party planning advice, check out our School age: Birthdays section. An amazing testimony on a spell caster who brought my wife back to me..

If you step on the floor you are out! To play this game, each person shares three statements, one of which is false and two of which are true. Everyone else has to guess which is the lie. All you need is some balloons and either table-tennis bats, or make your own bats using paper plates and sticks for handles.
The first person starts with a geographic place name and the next person has to think of a place name that starts with the last letter of the previous place. See how far round the world you can get!
This also makes a great car game for kids , particularly if they use places they see along the journey. The next person says e. Set up some obstacles in the room.
Blindfold one player and the rest of the players must lead them through the obstacle course by telling them the way to go.
Left to avoid a chair, right 2 steps to avoid a table. For bigger groups, split them into pairs and let each playing take a turn at leading and navigating.
When you go past the Pass the Parcel stage, you need games that will keep the year olds engaged and interested. These highly entertaining party games for tweens are tried-and-tested for party success! Beetle is a drawing game which you play with dice. Each beetle body part has a number associated with it, and that number must be rolled before can draw that particular body part. One person thinks of a thing or a person and the others have to guess what it is but are only allowed to ask questions that get a Yes or a No.
The others must guess by the 20th question. First one to guess gets to pick the next item to be guessed. Sardines gives a twist to the classic game of hide and seek. Instead of one person seeking and everyone else hiding, one person hides and everyone else seeks.
Once one of the seekers finds the person hiding, they must hide with that person. This continues until there is only one person left seeking, and everyone else is crammed together like sardines in the hiding place. The last person to find everyone else now becomes the new hider for the next round. Have a go at making up limericks, a limerick has five lines; the first, second, and fifth rhyme with each other, and the third and fourth rhyme with each other.
Give the kids a theme, or first line to get them going. Using marshmallows and wooden skewers or uncooked spaghetti see who can build the highest stack. You may need a few packets of marshmallows for this game as, if they build it well, they may be able to join several skewers together. To win, the stacks must stay up without help! While you have the marshmallows out, what about learning how to make a marshmallow catapult?
Kids get such a kick from this, and works well for all ages — the more kids you have for this, the better. See how much the sentence has changed by the time it comes back to the start. Get the skipping rope out and have a go at skipping times without stopping. Manage that? Aim for now. Check what the world record is for the most skips in 1 minute — can you beat it?! Charades can be played with any type of word or phrase, but with kids you may find that movie titles, television programmes and popular tween literature work best.
